W. SCOTT TRIMBLE
"DIVERGENT PATHS "

March 18 -April 9, 2006

Crawl Space is proud to present "Divergent Paths," a sculptural
installation by guest artist W. Scott Trimble, in which the entire
gallery becomes a navigable system of forking and converging
boardwalks. At their intersection with the walls, these walkable
pathways convert to a network of miniature wooden boardwalks which
ascend the gallery walls. Entering the gallery upon the boardwalk,
the viewer takes the role of active navigator as the path on which he
travels suddenly becomes miniature and climbs the wall to his
destination: a bridge to other pathways, or terminal elevator or pier.

"Divergent Paths" explores the observance of the paths we travel
throughout our lives. We travel on our own paths, we travel with
others, we choose different paths, we choose dead-end paths and so on.
Some of us choose out of bliss, love, tradition, caste, religion,
indecision, and even rely on fate. We may observe choices in our lives
as a "fork" in the road. These paths and divergences are a metaphor
for the many directions and choices we will encounter.

W. Scott Trimble received his MFA in Sculpture from the University of
Washington and BFA in Spatial Art from San Jose State University. His
work has been exhibited widely in venues across the Western states
including the 2004 and 2005 Bumbershoot Arts Festivals and the Seattle
International Airport.
