Crawl Space is pleased to present Deleterious, a site-specific correction of the gallery’s physical weaknesses by guest artist Matt Mitros. Through adornments of colorful resin drips in the more imperfect parts of the space, Mitros creates an ‘Architectural Wanderlust’ – as though the inner material of the building were trying to escape its own architectural purpose. Accompanying the installation are select pieces of Mitros’ sculptural collection.
"Both the organic and the machined are in fact equally natural. The difference can be discovered in their function; the organic is predicated by survival whereas the machined is predicated by efficiency."
Matt Mitros is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University and the University of Washington. He has had several solo exhibitions including the Portland Art Center and Tacoma Contemporary and currently teaches Ceramics and Sculpture at South Seattle Community College.
