BIG PAINTING

April 21 – May 13, 2007

Crawl Space is pleased to present Big Painting, new works by guest artists Kimberly Trowbridge and Shane Walsh. Unique among Seattle’s early-career artists, the two create technically masterful oil paintings of massive scale.

Kimberly Trowbridge
My paintings tell me stories and I develop associations among them over time. I am as much the audience as I am the painter. The figures interact and take part in a series of events that move from being whimsical to dead serious in an instant. Like figures having sex or falling from a rain cloud over the sea as the world is ending.

Shane Walsh
My paintings investigate my relationship to the visible world in terms of light and color. These paintings are the result of how I understand the world through my body and my senses. My use of the figure in this work is the most direct way I have found to communicate my experience to the world.
